Why KayakIndex Exists
Kayak specifications are hard to pin down. A manufacturer publishes figures for the boats it sells today and takes the page down when a model changes. Dealers copy those figures, round them and convert them, and the copies drift apart. If you own a kayak that is a few years old, the numbers for your exact boat have often gone.
That matters more than it sounds. A seat, a rudder kit or a hatch cover is made for a particular hull, and a hull can change between two model years that share a name. Buying the right part, sizing a spray skirt or knowing whether your roof bars can carry the boat all start with the figures for the year you own.
KayakIndex was started in September 2026 to keep those figures in one place. Current specifications are read from manufacturer pages wherever they are published, and from dealer listings where they are not. Older years are recovered from archived copies of the manufacturer's own pages, so a model's history comes from what its maker published at the time.
KayakIndex does not sell kayaks or parts, and no manufacturer reviews what is published here. It is maintained independently by its editor, who reads every correction before anything changes. Where a figure comes from a dealer rather than the maker, or where a page contradicts itself, the record says so.
What the Records Hold
Specifications by model year
Length, width, weight, capacity and the rest, recorded for each year a model was sold, with what changed between years.
Parts that fit
Seats, rudders, hatch covers, drives and electronics, each linked to the models and years it is recorded as fitting.
Manuals and documents
Owner's manuals, assembly guides and parts diagrams, linked to the publisher's own copy and filed against the boats they cover.
Help Improve the Index
Spotted a figure that does not match its source, or own a kayak the index has not recorded? Send a correction with whatever shows it: a manufacturer page, a manual, or a photograph of the label or the part in place.
